Why foster with us?

Man and three children

Norfolk County Council is at the heart of children's social services in Norfolk. Our teams are involved whenever there is a need for care or support for children and young people in the county,

Five children come into care every week in our county. We need more people to work with us to give them a loving home.

Norfolk Fostering Service is a not-for-profit public service, and the largest fostering agency in Norfolk, with the biggest community of friendly foster carers. We are focused on improving the lives of children in Norfolk, with the help of incredible foster parents who work with us to give children of all ages loving homes and the chance to flourish.

Our dedicated, experienced team will get to know you and your family so we can make the best matches between you and the children in our care, so we can keep them close to the community they know and love.

We'll be with you all the way

Our team will be with you from the moment you enquire about fostering, all the way through pre-approval and assessment, and as you become an experienced foster carer:

  • During the assessment process, our team will get to know you and your family really well. This in-depth knowledge helps us to match the right child with the right family when you become a foster carer.
  • Our foster carers take part in extensive therapeutic support and training (which includes support for your family too) here in Norfolk. We want you to be able to foster with confidence.
  • We have local offices in Kings Lynn, Thetford, Norwich and Great Yarmouth
  • Our expert team is located under one roof meaning we have access to mentors, educational experts, social workers, SEND specialists and other children's services team plus all the information we need about the children in our care
  • We provide continuous and flexible support 24/7, 365 days a year for when you face challenges or have worries. We will always listen and guide without judgement if things don't go according to plan.
  • Foster carers are self-employed. We help you make the most out of available allowances, tax benefits and other financial rewards and pay generous fees and allowances available to our foster carers
  • We work to ensure every Norfolk child or young person in care can remain local, and thrive in their own community. We only use other fostering agencies if we have no suitable in-house carers

Based in Norfolk, our team of educational experts, social workers and foster care ambassadors offer decades of experience. Together we provide continuous, flexible support for you to develop your foster carer skills, and make a unique difference to children in our county.
