Parent and child foster care
Parent and child foster care involves looking after vulnerable parents and their young children.
The parent may need support because they had a poor experience of parenting when they were growing up. Or they might need extra help to learn parenting skills.
As the foster carer, you will provide the parent with advice and guidance. You will be a role model to help them recognise, understand, and respond to their child's needs.
The experience of living in a caring, structured family environment can help these parents to thrive. It can make a significant contribution to helping the family stay together.
Roles and responsibilities
Our Parent and Child Foster Care Placements policy sets out the roles and responsibilities of:
- The foster carer providing the placement
- The parent in the placement
- The foster carer's supervising social worker
- The child's social worker
- The parent's social worker (if the parent is under 18 years old)
