North NiCC
Where is it?
The North Norfolk in Care Council (NiCC) group is a new and currently small group. They would like more care experienced children and young people to come to the meetings.
The North group meets in Aylsham but covers the whole of North Norfolk and Broadland too.
Your foster carer can provide transport to meetings, but if they can’t, we can help with transport to make sure you can take part.
When does the group meet?
The North group meets on the third Wednesday of the month at 5-7pm in Aylsham. Food is provided and is open to any young person with experience of care by Norfolk Children’s Services. This includes care leavers too.
What has North NiCC group been doing?
Life story work
The North group have recently been discussing life story work. They want to make it more child and young person friendly and have come up with ideas on how to do this. The North group met with senior social workers to discuss improvements to life story work across Norfolk Children’s Services. They also discussed digital life story work with a University of East Anglia (UEA) researcher as part of their exploration.
Children and young people said: "I don’t always understand why I am in foster care and I would like to know a bit more about my family. I think life story work can help me."
To help with this, we planned training for workers on life story based on your suggestions. A short clip made by children and young people will be shared as part of the training to show what you think is the most important parts of life story work.
Passport for independence
The group have also been looking at the passport to independence and want to redesign it, working with other NiCC groups to do this.
Children and young people said: "The passport is too long and boring – it feels like a piece of work!"
To help with this, we created a survey based on feedback to ask foster carers and young people what they think can be changed about the passport. These recommendations will be put forward to the sub-group who are reviewing the passport.
What is the North NiCC group doing next?
The North group are going to be involved with creating the video for life story training and have been involved with other things such as interviewing new workers, creating a newsletter and designing a virtual talent show. You can help decide what we get up to next if you would like to join.
