Nursing homes

If you are finding it very difficult to manage at home or in the community and you think that you may have health needs which can only be met by a nurse, then your best option may be nursing care in a home.

You will be visited by a social worker or a registered nurse to establish what care you require and find somewhere which can best meet your needs. This meeting might be in your own home, in hospital or, if you have been ill, a care home.

You may require a specially trained nurse to assess your needs in order to determine what level of nursing care the NHS will fund, as the cost of your nursing care is paid by the NHS to the home. It is very important that you have your nursing needs established before you move into a care home.

If you have capital and savings of more than £23,250, you will need to pay the home directly for the full cost of the care, less the part funded by the NHS.
