Norfolk Coast path notices, closures and temporary route changes

Happisburgh

The Norfolk Coast Path at Happisburgh is under revision due to coastal erosion. The path has been re-routed along a permissive path and a permanent longer-term route is being planned. We request that walkers follow the signs in place along the route.

Hemsby - alternative route closure

The cliff top Coast Path route for use at high tide has been lost to coastal erosion.

Hemsby Footpath 2 also known as 'The Marrams' has been lost and is inaccessible, as a result we have now closed the path.

The Norfolk Coast Path along the beach is subject to tides, check local tide information for Hemsby or alternatively call the Met Office on 0370 900 0100 before beginning the route along this section. From where the Coast Path joins the beach you have a 2.3 mile walk to clear the erosion site, please allow enough time to avoid being cut off.

Holme FP13

A diversion is in place around a 50-metre stretch of the Norfolk Coast Path at Holme FP14, due to erosion of the path.

The diversion is clearly signed on the ground and will remain in place until a long-term solution can be found.

Hopton-on-Sea

The Norfolk Coast Path along the beach is subject to tides. Check local tide information for Hopton-on-Sea for or alternatively call the Met Office on 0370 900 0100 before beginning the route along this section.

From where the Coast Path joins the beach, there is a 1.2 mile walk to Gorleston promenade. Please allow enough time to avoid being cut off by the tide.

Overstrand

Due to a cliff fall onto the promenade we are advising walkers to avoid this section of the path. Please follow the maps and diversion signs on site.

Sheringham, Skelding Hill

Path condition notice

We have recently carried out interim repairs to this section of the Norfolk Coast Path to create a more reliable walking surface for all users, helping to restore the route so it can be used safely and comfortably. Design work for the full repair and replacement of this section is currently underway.

We will update this page with our proposed plans and timelines as soon as they are available. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Sidestrand

The Norfolk Coast Path at Sidestrand has been affected by coastal erosion. The path has therefore been rolled back 4 metres away from the edge of the cliff.

We request that walkers follow the signs in place along the route.

Trimingham House

The Coast Path has been rerouted through Trimingham House caravan park due to a cliff fall. The new route is waymarked on the ground.
