New development for over 55s opens in Acle
An open day is being held next week to mark the completion of Saffron Housing Trust's new Independent Community Living Plus scheme in Acle.
Swallowtail Place, which is made up of 58 apartments, will support those over 55 with care needs to continue to live independent lives. It has been funded and developed in a partnership between Saffron, Norfolk County Council and Homes England. Care support will be provided by Norse Care.
On Thursday 17 November, invited partners and other key stakeholders will have the chance to tour the building and view the facilities, built by Norfolk-based R G Carter. In the afternoon members of the public will be able to drop in from 2 to 4pm, view the facilities, and ask any questions they may have about the scheme. Representatives from Saffron, Norfolk County Council, NorseCare, and Broadland District Council will also be on hand to talk about Independent Community Living Plus.
41 of the apartments will be available for rent and 17 available to buy on a shared ownership basis. On-site care and support will be available 24/7, giving residents and their families peace of mind that support is close to hand if needed. With the inclusion of communal spaces such as a lounge, activity room, bistro space and a hair salon as well as outside areas, residents will remain active in the community.
"Swallowtail Place will help reduce social isolation and give residents a real sense of community. We are providing not only much needed housing, but a place for tenants to live safely, with care if they need it, whilst retaining their independence."
Cllr Bill Borrett, Norfolk County Council's Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care, said: "The Council is investing £29m in independent living schemes like the one at Swallowtail Place. This means that people can continue to live in a home of their own and enjoy their independence, whilst also having the reassurance that care is on hand if they need it.
"People tell us that this kind of accommodation can also prevent the need for them to move into a care home, it also reduces the time residents stay in hospital and keeps them healthier and independent for longer. I am looking forward to the first residents moving in in the next few weeks."
