What your supervising social worker (SSW) can help with
- If you have any questions - you can ask them about any aspect of fostering
- Access to a dedicated fostering therapeutic service and supporting resilience team. The therapeutic service includes a clinician and clinical psychologist who offer reflective practice groups, training and advice to help children and their foster families. The supporting resilience team are specialist practitioners who deliver bespoke therapeutic support programmes to fostering families. Your SSW can put you in touch with these services.
- Access to training. Fostering is a professional role. Your ongoing learning and development is very important to us. We run a wide range of training courses for our foster carers. We also give you the opportunity to attend training courses with councils who are part of the Foster East partnership. Your SSW can talk to you about your continuing professional development as a foster carer. They have up to date information about available training courses.
- Getting involved with Mockingbird. The Mockingbird Family Model was introduced to the UK by The Fostering Network. The Mockingbird support network gives foster carers, children who foster and children in care a chance to spend time together. The Mockingbird's central foster family or hub carer arranges playdates and activity dates. They can also host fostered children for sleepovers to give foster families a break when needed. We have two Mockingbird groups and are looking for fostering families to form another group. Let your SSW know if you'd like to get involved.
Events, networking, and support groups
Norfolk Fostering Service host events for fostering families throughout the year. This includes picnics, parties and outings so you can spend time with other foster carers and families.
Children who foster also benefit from special events just for them. They can meet up without parents or foster siblings to have fun together. Recent activities have included a climbing wall session and an evening quiz event.
As a Norfolk Fostering Service foster carer, you will receive our regular email update with information about what's going on. This includes details about events we are running for you and your families.
