Norfolk County Council , 22 January 2025 13:56

Tom Major, a former student of the Norfolk and Suffolk Music Hub known for his role as Rodney Trotter in Only Fools and Horses the Musical, has returned to his hometown in hope of inspiring fellow performers.

Tom visited his old stomping grounds at East Norfolk Sixth Form College to give an Access to Industry talk and perform for students from the college and Lynn Grove Academy. During the Q&A session, Tom shared his experiences and insights into the music industry, aiming to motivate the next generation of musicians and actors.

Tom Major said: "I am so grateful to the Norfolk and Suffolk Music Hub, which is led by Norfolk County Council, for giving me the opportunity to perform at The Royal Albert Hall. Having the honour of performing on such an iconic stage alongside so many other young people was so inspiring and is a memory I will treasure forever."

Maisie 16 and a student at Lynn Grove Academy said: "Meeting Tom was an inspiring experience. As somebody who wants to go into the industry, listening to his journey has helped me believe that's achievable."

Councillor Penny Carpenter, cabinet member for Children's Services, said: "We are incredibly proud of Tom's achievements and delighted to welcome him back. His story exemplifies what can be achieved with dedication and passion. We hope that his visit will inspire our students to pursue their dreams with the same determination."

Tom started with the Lowestoft Players, trained at Gorleston's D16 Performing Arts College and ArtsEd in London, and performed with the Norfolk Music Hub in 2019. After graduating from ArtsEd in 2024, he landed the role of Rodney in the Only Fools and Horses tour and has been touring the UK. He performed in the West End over Christmas and is set to perform at Ipswich Regent and Norwich Theatre Royal in January.

The Norfolk and Suffolk Music Hub is dedicated to providing high-quality music education and opportunities to around 50,000 young people a year across the region. Through a range of programs and initiatives, the Hub aims to nurture talent, foster creativity, and inspire a lifelong love of music.
