What councillors do for you

When you elect a councillor to Norfolk County Council, they take on a number of responsibilities.

Each councillor represents one of the 84 divisions in Norfolk. They:

  • Hold "surgeries" where they can meet residents in person
  • Advocate for residents' concerns
  • Keep residents informed about local issues
  • Make decisions on behalf of the local community about local services and budgets
  • Work with other organisations to help improve services and quality of life for its citizens
  • Develop policies and strategies that guide the council's work, ensuring they reflect the priorities set by the council

Some councillors take on additional responsibilities. For example, they may chair or sit on a committee. Read more about Norfolk County Council's committees.
