Phil, Volunteer Driver for Travel Norfolk Car Scheme

Phil has been volunteering with the Travel Norfolk Car Scheme since 2024. He was made redundant in May 2023 and wanted to change the way he used his time after 36 years of working for a large building society.
He decided to split his time between work, volunteering and making more time for himself and his family.
Phil said: "I enjoy driving, meeting new people and importantly thought I would enjoy the role. I can remember how difficult it was managing work/family and the need to get my parents to regular medical appointments and thought I could contribute to what is a really valuable service.
"I've most enjoyed meeting some delightful people and gaining a strong sense that the time I've given has made a difference. Volunteering gives me a high level of personal satisfaction and challenges me to make sure I use my time well. It provides a good balance with the other things I do - I'm not sure I would enjoy the golf or trips away as much as I do if I didn't allocate some time to give back.
"Without doubt, I'd recommend volunteering! Explore opportunities that are of interest and you think you'd enjoy. Giving some time can be a real win for everyone, including yourself."
