Wellbeing support from Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service

As part of our wellbeing strategy, we encourage our staff to speak up and share their experiences. We know that emergency service workers can be reluctant to open up about work pressures. We are working on opportunities to:

  • Encourage open conversations
  • Strengthen team bonds
  • Normalise reaching for help

The emotional burden for family members

As family members you may carry some of the emotional burden. There is support for you and your family member:

  • Should they ever turn to you as their initial support network, or
  • If you notice a change in their behaviour. This may mean they are struggling with their mental health.

Early intervention with support

We work with the Rivers Centre to provide post-incident support. This is for staff who may be at risk of having a psychological injury due to their job. We encourage staff to complete a confidential questionnaire after a potential triggering incident. The team of clinical psychologists can assess if there is a need for additional support.

There are also a wide variety of support resources, for family and friends of fire service staff. You can find information on the Lifelines website.

Relate relationship support

We have commissioned a service from the Fire Fighters Charity and Relate. They can offer you and your loved one free confidential advice and guidance on maintaining a healthy relationship.

Whether you're looking to strengthen your relationship or going through a tough time, there is support available. It is designed to help you grow and improve your relationship. It ensures you each have the tools you need, so your relationship thrives.
