Highways teams deliver a top service for Norfolk residents

Norfolk County Council's annual Highway and Transport Performance Report has been published and is set to be reviewed by the Council's Infrastructure and Development Select Committee next week.

The report highlights how well-managed highways services are delivering real benefits to residents, with safer roads and improved access to greener transport and reduced congestion in areas across the county.

It details how last year Norfolk County Council was 1st in the country for overall customer satisfaction with its highways and transport services, according to the latest National Highways and Transport (NHT) survey. This marked the sixth consecutive year Norfolk has placed in the top two nationally, reflecting the outstanding performance of Norfolk's highways teams.

Councillor Graham Plant, cabinet member for highways, infrastructure and transport said; "This report highlights some real successes across our highways department, the services being delivered and recognised by our peers are a testament to the dedication of our highways teams. Their work is vital to ensures Norfolk's roads are safe, accessible, and resilient making a real difference to everyday life for our residents."

  • Top national ranking for customer satisfaction among 29 county councils.
  • £57 million capital investment in highways in 2024/25, boosted by government grants.
  • Over 28.6 million bus journeys made—up 9% from last year—thanks to improved services and infrastructure.
  • EV charging access ranked 3rd nationally, with new community charge points installed across Norfolk.
  • Pedestrian volumes up 32.5% in King's Lynn and 16.3% in Great Yarmouth, reflecting safer and more walkable urban centres.
