Woodland creation at Wiggenhall
We're bringing 15 hectares of new woodland to Wiggenhall St Germans - a vibrant, wildlife-rich space for everyone to enjoy. Over the next few years, we'll:
- Plant 40,000 trees
- Create a beautiful landscape that:
- Supports nature
- Invites exploration
- Strengthens the local community's connection to the outdoors
What's happening and when?
Areas
We've designed three distinct areas, each with its own character and purpose. All three areas will be open access, with paths that invite walking, exploring, and quiet reflection. We're creating places that support wildlife and offer meaningful experiences for residents and visitors alike.
Area 1 - Daisy Flower Forest
What3Words: headlight.decorator.dearest
This area is marked as Cpt 1 on the plan. It located between Wiggenhall St Germans Church and St Peters Road.
We'll plant wildflowers and trees chosen to complement nearby heritage features, including St German's Church. This space will celebrate local history while supporting biodiversity.
Area 2 - Bob Rawlings Spinney
What3Words: panicking.annual.richly
This area is marked as Cpt 2 on the plan. It is located between Mill Road and High Road.
Nature takes the lead here. Trees and shrubs will form a thriving habitat for local wildlife, creating a peaceful sanctuary for flora and fauna.
Area 3 - Wicga's Wood
What3Words: tickling.hoped.ships
This area is marked as Cpt 3 on the plan. It is located between Mill Road and High Road.
This is the largest area, and it connects to existing footpaths. Visitors can wander through open grassland and broadleaf trees, discovering new views and enjoying the changing seasons.
Protecting young trees
To keep the young trees safe, we've installed deer fencing around each area. Once works are complete you will be able to access the woodlands through pedestrian gates. Once the trees are strong enough, we'll remove the fencing to fully open up the space.
Shaped by the community
Thank you Wiggenhall community and parish council! Local voices have helped shape this project from the start. We're committed to working with residents as the woodland grows, making sure these new spaces feel welcoming and valued by everyone.

Part of the 1 Million Trees for Norfolk Project
This woodland is part of the 1 Million Trees for Norfolk initiative, launched in 2020. The project supports communities, individuals, and organisations to plant 1 million trees across the county - helping tackle climate change, absorb carbon, create habitats, and build greener spaces for everyone.
