More buses out of Great Yarmouth Market Gates thanks to Norfolk's Bus Service Improvement Plan
From Sunday 2 November 2025, First Bus's popular Coastal Clipper route will benefit from a significant boost in service. The 1/1a service from Great Yarmouth to Martham will now see additional journeys in each direction on weekdays and Saturdays, providing an hourly service throughout the evening. Sunday services will also be improved, with frequency increasing from hourly to every 30 minutes. These enhancements will also deliver a combined headway with Service 8 north of Great Yarmouth, which will mean better overall connectivity for passengers in the region.
Further improvements will follow on Monday 3 November, when First Bus's number 7 service between Great Yarmouth and Norwich will increase its frequency to every two hours, Monday to Saturday. This route will also gain an early evening journey, providing more chances to choose the bus for commuters, shoppers, and visitors to Norwich and Yarmouth.
These enhancements have been made possible thanks Norfolk's Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP). Norfolk County Council has secured £15.9 million in funding for the 2025/26 financial year from the Department for Transport (DfT). This is in addition to the £49.5 million received in previous rounds, all aimed at transforming bus services across the county.
Cllr Graham Plant, Cabinet Member for Highways, Infrastructure and Transport, said: "Our hugely successful Bus Service Improvement Plan continues to deliver real change for communities across Norfolk. By increasing bus journey options, we're giving residents more opportunities to choose the bus—whether for work, leisure, or essential travel. Norfolk residents have already taken over 28 million bus journeys this year, a 9% increase compared to last year, and we're proud to see that momentum continue."
James McCluskey, Commercial Director for First Bus East of England, said: "We're delighted to be working with Norfolk County Council to deliver even more improvements for our customers.
"These extra Coastal Clipper and Service 7 journeys mean residents and visitors will have greater flexibility to travel when it suits them, and help make bus travel a more convenient, reliable, and sustainable choice."
Updated timetables will be available on the First Bus website.
