Millennium Library refurbishment works closure

The Norfolk and Norwich Millennium Library will be closing temporarily from 27 April to mid-July to enable a major refurbishment to take place.

The work will create a more accessible and flexible space for all visitors, inspiring visitors to one of the country's most popular libraries. This year also marks the 25th anniversary of library opening inside the iconic Norwich forum building. This will be the most significant work carried in the library's history.

Please Note: This work is taking place in the library. The rest of the forum is unaffected and will remain open throughout.

How services will continue during the closure

The Millennium Library is one of the most used library locations in the country so we will be putting a number of measures in place to allow residents to continue accessing our services:

  • While the main library is being refurbished you can make use of our new pop-up library in The Forum. You will find us in the former Adam From Home store on the left as you walk into The Forum, Norwich. Books for adults, teens and children are available as well as facilities for issues and returns, enquires and your reservations. The pop-up library will be open:
    • Monday to Friday 10am-5pm
    • Saturday 9am-5pm
    • Sunday 10.30am-4.30pm
  • We are continuing to run some of our regular events - see the events timetable
  • Customers are encouraged to return items to other nearby libraries. For those who are unable to do so, there will be a limited facility to return items to a temporary location in The forum. Loans will also be extended to allow for greater flexibility.
  • Reservations can be collected from the temporary location and pick-up times have been extended.
  • Some of the regular groups and activities (eg Bounce and Rhyme, Just a Cuppa, Heritage events) will continue to be delivered within the Gallery space in The forum.
  • Access to public computers and printing will be unavailable throughout. We would encourage library users to book a computer at other local libraries to access these facilities.
  • The Business and Intellectual Property Centre (BIPC) on the second floor of the library will be closed for the duration of the works.
  • Norfolk Heritage Centre, also on the second floor, will be closed for the duration of the works. This is due to the sensitive nature of the material contained in the heritage centre, which makes moving it more challenging and potentially putting the material at risk.

Residents can continue to access library services at other libraries in Norwich and across Norfolk during this period. View local libraries in Norfolk
