Temporary changes to electrical recycling at Norfolk Recycling Centres
Recycling centres across Norfolk are currently unable to accept most electrical waste items.
Last month, a serious fire affected a waste electrical recycling facility used as part of the national recycling system that Norfolk is part of. The company who operates the site has now lost its treatment facility approval and has ceased operating and as a result our electrical waste cannot be legally recycled.
What this means for residents
Most electrical items cannot be accepted, for now, at all of Norfolk's Recycling Centres.
You can still bring the following large household appliances:
- Washing machines
- Tumble dryers
- Dishwashers
- Cookers
District Council bulky waste collections will also be impacted. Please check with your District Council direct.
What we're doing
We know this is inconvenient and we're sorry for the disruption. Norfolk County Council is actively exploring all available options and working closely with national regulators and industry partners to put a safe and legal solution in place so we can to bring the service back as quickly as possible.
What residents should do
- Please don't bring electrical items to Recycling Centres at the moment, unless they are one of the large appliances listed above.
- If you can, store electrical items safely at home until we confirm services have restarted.
- We will share updates as soon as there is any change, so residents know when items can be accepted again.
Thank you for your patience and understanding. We appreciate residents working with us while we resolve this issue and get services fully back up and running.
