This Carers' Week is a time to remember all those who look after others affected by illness or disability, including over 95,000 unpaid carers in Norfolk.

Carers' Week 2026 runs from 8 to 14 June and is a chance to shine a light on the vital role unpaid carers play in supporting family members, friends and neighbours across Norfolk.

There are more than 95,000 unpaid carers in Norfolk looking after someone who could not manage without their support. Many of them do not see themselves as carers but anyone who regularly helps a loved one in this way may be entitled to advice, information and practical support.

Cllr Scott Hussey, Norfolk County Council's Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care and Public Health, said: "We know just how much work is involved in supporting those who need care across the country, and the fact is a huge part of that work is done, day in and day out, by good people caring for those they love without any expectation of payment. The care system could not function without them but just because they're unpaid doesn't mean there's no support available.

"Anyone who is looking after someone who can't manage without them can find advice, support and information to make their lives easier, all provided for free: from online resources to in-person Information Days and digital assistants, there's support for everyone out there and I'm urging carers to take advantage of that help and find out how they can get support to make their lives easier."

As part of Carers' Week, Care for Carers is running a Carers' Information Day at The Forum in Norwich on Monday 8 June from 9am to 3pm. The event will give carers the chance to connect with others, find out more about the support available across the county and speak to organisations that can help them in their caring role.

More free advice and resources are available on carersmatternorfolk.org.uk

Carers Week aims to raise awareness of caring, recognise the contribution unpaid carers make to families and communities, and help more people identify themselves as carers so they can access support. Anyone in Norfolk who looks after someone and needs advice is encouraged to explore the help available and take the first step towards getting support this Carers Week.
