Statement on Pride activities in Norfolk Libraries
Despite recent media reports, no new decisions have been made and no new guidance has been issued to staff regarding displays in Norfolk County Council libraries and museums.
Council services are expected to remain politically neutral. This long-standing principle remains unchanged. The corresponding guidance, which was first issued in 2024, does not target any particular group.
It is important that council services engage with local communities and take part in community events, particularly in public-facing venues such as libraries and museums. They provide access to a diverse range of materials, exhibitions and activities which staff manage and curate.
No single display, book, exhibition, or activity should be regarded as representing the views of the county council, its employees or elected members. Providing appropriate context and thoughtful curation is important to ensure that visitors can consider different perspectives and form their own conclusions.
