Young people encouraged to Chill on the Hill over the summer holidays
Young people are being invited to Chill on the Hill this summer, with safe, fun and creative sessions happening in the grounds of Norwich Castle.
Norfolk County Council's Targeted Youth Support Service has teamed up with Castle Quarter to run the free relaxed activities in Castle Gardens.
Taking place every Thursday, from 2pm to 6pm, there will be music, creativity and games. The team also has a projector and screen for playing video games and are planning karaoke and art activities.
Aimed at young people aged 11-17, the sessions aim to give young people a safe place to meet up, socialise with friends and have fun.
Cllr Wendy Atkinson, Cabinet Member for Children, Families and SEND at Norfolk County Council, said: "These new sessions will give young people somewhere safe to socialise over the holidays. They can turn up and relax with friends or take part in creative activities or games - it's up to them.
"Our youth workers will be on hand if young people need any support or advice but really we just want young people to enjoy their break from school or college, take part in some positive activities and have fun. These are free drop-in sessions, so young people can come and go as they please.
Norfolk's detached youth workers support children and young people in the places that they like to visit, rather than in traditional youth centre buildings. They organise activities and provide advice and support aimed at keeping young people safe.
Gemma Hyde, Marketing and Administration Manager at Castle Quarter, said: "We're proud to be supporting Norfolk County Council by providing a space for their Chill on the Hill sessions this summer. We know how important it is for young people to have safe, welcoming places where they can spend time with friends, try something new and stay active during the school holidays. That's why we're delighted to back this fantastic initiative that reflects Castle Quarter's own values of bringing people together and making a positive difference for local families."
We are organising sessions in the Jenny Lind Park, in Norwich, St Georges Park, in Great Yarmouth, Muga Mania in Kings Lynn and Castle Park in Thetford. Details of those sessions are available via our Targeted Youth Support Service page.
