Volunteering at Norfolk libraries

Volunteer Ellie Wright 720w

Are you outgoing? Do you love helping people? Are you enthusiastic about your local community?

We need volunteers to help us support and develop library activities across Norfolk. We are looking for people with all kinds of skills and backgrounds. This could be:

  • Digital skills - from basic IT to coding
  • Customer service experience
  • Language, research or reading skills
  • Crafting skills
  • Experience in running group activities
  • Experience working with different age groups, or with people with different needs

Volunteering allows you to meet new people, learn new skills, gain confidence and give something back to the community. We offer flexible but regular opportunities, training, support and encouragement, and you will be part of a friendly team.

How to volunteer

You can find a list of library roles that we are currently recruiting for on the Get Involved Norfolk website. You can register your interest in the role on their website.

To make a general enquiry about volunteering or if you are interested in working at a particular library, complete the register your interest form.

Register your interest form

What happens after you register interest

We will ask you to complete an application form and name two people for references. When we have received your application form we will have a discussion about:

  • Your expectations
  • How we will support you
  • If this is the right role for you

If the role is suitable, we will check your references. If you will be working with under 18s or vulnerable adults, you must also complete a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. If your skills or experience do not match the role you are interested in, we will try to find another suitable role.

Finally, we will arrange your induction, training and start dates.
