South Norfolk SWMP
Norfolk County Council and South Norfolk District Council have agreed to produce Stage 1 of South Norfolk District Surface Water Management Plan (SWMP).
Norfolk County Council is project managing this stage.
The SWMP will cover the whole district council area but will look in detail at areas that have the highest risk from surface water flooding.
Background
The key outputs from the South Norfolk District SWMP will be:
- A steering group with clarified roles and responsibilities of each partner
- An established method and timing of stakeholder engagement
- Agreed objectives for the South Norfolk District SWMP
- All available collated and mapped data for the SWMP, presented in a format which will aid future studies
- A priority list of areas more vulnerable to surface water flooding from existing data
An important part of the SWMP is the Communication and Stakeholder Engagement Plan. This seeks to inform and liaise with all relevant stakeholders who could be affected by or have an input towards mitigating surface water flooding.
Progress
Stage 1 of the project involves putting together a steering group to manage the project, gathering all available and relevant data and starting engagement with local resilience groups and councillors.
The steering group consists of officers from Anglian Water, the Environment Agency, South Norfolk District Council, Norfolk County Council and local Internal Drainage Boards.
Historic flood events and predicted flood risk from new surface water flood maps will be analysed to identify the priority settlements for this project.

Stage 1 of the South Norfolk SWMP is now complete.
Norfolk County Council, as the Lead Local Flood Authority are in the process of bidding via the Regional Flood & Coastal Committee (RFCC) for funding to take this Surface Water Management Plan for South Norfolk forward into Stage 2.
