Promoting a greener economy
We committed to embracing clean growth and the economic opportunities it provides in rural Norfolk delivering a low carbon economy in our Rural Economic Strategy.
We want an inclusive local economy for Norfolk. An economy where we can generate economic growth and improve social wellbeing while tackling the challenges and opportunities presented by climate change.
Sustainable tourism
We're helping businesses to find the best ways visitors can experience Norfolk sustainably. This supports the growth of Norfolk's sustainable tourism sector - providing year-round, well-paid jobs while minimising impact on the environment.
Clean energy
Being a centre for the UK's clean energy sector is a key part of the Norfolk and Suffolk Economic Strategy. Construction on the new Great Yarmouth Operations and Maintenance Campus began in January 2023. The campus will provide a viable, highly attractive offshore location for offshore energy business and is estimated to create 650 new green jobs.
Developing green skills in our county
We have partnered with the Retrofit Academy to develop a green skills training programme. This will provide the county's workforce with the skills they need to access the jobs opportunities a low carbon economy will provide.
Investing in clean growth
We created the Norfolk Investment Framework to drive economic growth in our county. We designed the framework to tackle the challenge of protecting Norfolk's economic and natural assets from climate change.
We're working in partnership with stakeholders to deliver projects that meet this challenge. This includes investing in projects that will:
- Mitigate the constraints imposed on Norfolk's economy by climate change
- Reduce the costs and maximise the opportunities of the transition to net zero
