What is a SEN information report?

A SEN Information Report (SIR) helps parents/carers understand how a school applies its SEN Policy in practice. It must include information about their provision and support for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

The SEN Information Report should be easy to read and understand by someone unfamiliar with teaching practice, SEND terminology and SEND processes.

Parents and carers are encouraged to read the SEN Information Report to learn more about the SEND provision and support offered by a school as part of the local offer.

Schools must publish a SEN information report on their website so that young people, parents/carers, school staff and external professionals can find it easily.

The SEN information report should be updated annually with any changes occurring during the year updated as soon as possible.

The information it must include is set out in the Special Educational Needs and Disability Regulations 2014 Schedule 1.
