Accommodation with support
Accommodation with support is good for care leavers if you want to live independently, but with some help still.
The amount of help you are entitled to depends on your care leaver status. Check your rights on the GOV.UK support for care leavers website.

Staying close, staying connected
You might be eligible for this service if you currently live in residential care or have done previously. The service supports you to become independent. You will share a house, normally with one other young person, and get personalised support. You will have access to:
- An emotional wellbeing service and mentoring
- Staying connected coordinators. They can help you reconnect with family, friends and former carers.
Once you are ready, our aim is to support you into your own property.

Supported lodgings
You will have your own room in the private house of an approved trusted adult. They will support you and improve your independent living skills. We expect you to look after yourself and the home.
In Norfolk, the YMCA and Benjamin Foundation offer this service. You can say if you would prefer a single host or a couple. You might also be able to live in a household with children and pets.
Speak to your personal adviser to find out more about supported lodgings and how to apply.
Supported housing
There are different types of supported housing for care leavers aged 16-25, including:
- Hostels
- Shared houses
- Self-contained flats
The level of support can vary. Some accommodation has staffing 24 hours a day.
You can visit supported housing with your social worker or personal adviser. They will help you see what might suit you best.
Living with family or friends
When you are 18, you might want to move back in with family or other relatives.
Make sure you discuss this with your social worker or personal adviser beforehand.
