A greener, more resilient future

A view of Norwich from the River Wensum

People's health and wellbeing is not only affected by what people do. It can be affected by the places around us. For example:

  • Living in an area with low levels of crime
  • Safe places to enjoy the outdoors
  • Good jobs
  • Quality housing

That's why it's important to look at what is needed in specific places to help people live longer and healthier lives.

We collaborate with partners and the public to create connected resilient communities.

Our approach empowers local action. We focus on both the natural and built environment to promote green spaces, clean air for all, and active modes of travel.

The 2024/25 director of public health annual report explores the relationship between climate change and health. It sets out how a changing climate may adversely impact the health and wellbeing of Norfolk's residents. It also highlights the benefits to health that can result from climate action. For example, travelling more sustainably and improving access to green spaces. The report includes case studies of work already underway in Norfolk. It outlines opportunities for individuals and organisations to improve health outcomes and build resilience.
