Norfolk's natural environment at the core of this year's popular Apple Day
People are invited to celebrate all things apple related at the ever-popular Apple Day event at Gressenhall Farm and Workhouse, Museum of Norfolk Life, this Sunday, 16 October, from 10am to 5pm.
The museum that's located in the heart of the county has now hosted the family friendly Apple Day event for more than 30 years.
Visitors will be able to get hands-on with crab apple smashing to help the on-site Community Tree Nursery to collect seeds, and enjoy a wide variety of apple-themed craft activities.
Cllr Margaret Dewsbury, Cabinet Member for Communities and Partnerships, said: "At Apple Day this year, there will be even more to see and do as the team branch out with a wider range of nature-themed activities in support of a new environmental learning hub launching soon at the museum. The family fun includes creating apple bird feeders and pinecone hedgehogs while down on the farm children will be able to help build a farm for the future out of recycled and recyclable materials, each adding their own field to the estate which will grow over the day!"
Visitors will be able to get top tips from a master composter on how to make the most of garden cuttings and leftovers, follow guided nature walks around the biodiverse estate and brush up on plant and tree ID skills. The 1 Million Trees for Norfolk team will also be on hand with advice on planting, aftercare and sourcing trees. And visitors can learn more about the successful Wendling Beck Environmental Project which is a large scale regenerative farming and conservation project located right next door to the museum.
The resident Suffolk Punch horses will be working on the fields while visitors can enjoy environmentally linked folk music with Adam Clark at the on-site shepherd's hut. And there will be a star prize up for grabs for the best apple themed outfit or costume of the day!
