10-year investment blueprint to be considered

Norfolk County Council, 23 March 2023 00:00

A 10-year blueprint for multi-million pound investment in housing, roads, green spaces and other key infrastructure in Norfolk has been unveiled.

The county council's cabinet will consider the Norfolk Strategic Infrastructure Delivery Plan. It was jointly developed with Norfolk's district councils, to identify priorities and provide a pipeline of investment schemes.

Councillor Graham Plant, cabinet member for highways, transport and infrastructure, said: "This plan shows Norfolk's ambitious priorities, to deliver homes, jobs, green spaces and key infrastructure, from key road and rail schemes to power network improvements.

"It provides a clear pipeline of schemes that can attract investment, which could include money flowing from the county deal and Norfolk Investment Framework.

Examples of major schemes in the plan, which will generate a significant number of homes and jobs, include:

  • Road infrastructure at Attleborough and Long Stratton, to deliver 5,800 homes
  • The East Norwich Regeneration scheme, which could deliver up to 4,000 homes and 100,000 square metres of employment space

The plan will also support a move to net zero carbon, through sustainable developments, green spaces and encouragement of electric vehicles. Sustainability projects include:

  • Weavers Way, providing walking and cycling infrastructure to support the Broadland Growth Triangle's planned 13,500 homes
  • The Green Loop, a 46 mile accessible route for cycling and walking
  • Two new country parks - Broadland and Burlingham

The plan is reviewed annually. New projects added over the last year include:

  • Great Yarmouth Learning Centre and University Campus
  • Business Incubator on the Great Yarmouth Energy Park
  • Southgates Regeneration Area
  • Nar Ouse Innovation & Collaboration Incubator
  • Snetterton Heath Mains Sewer Connection
  • Gateway Thetford
  • Hethel Sustainable Energy
  • North Walsham Western Link Road
  • King's Lynn Sustainable Transport and Regeneration Scheme

Cabinet will consider the plan when it meets at 10am on Monday, 3rd April. You can watch the meeting, live or afterwards and read the reports.
