We wrote to local residents in September 2022 regarding draft proposals to improve conditions for walking and cycling on Jellicoe Road and the surrounding area.
What's being proposed and why?
The proposed route will provide safer walking and cycling facilities along Jellicoe Road between Caister Road and Beatty Road as well as introducing a number of improved crossing facilities.

Proposal A
Pavement widened to incorporate continuous stepped cycleway on both sides of Jellicoe Road between Caister Road and Beatty Road. This will provide a safer environment for those cycling along this busy route, removing conflict with traffic and parked vehicles. All on street parking would be retained.
Proposal B
Upgrade of existing push button crossing with facilities for walking/cycling. Making it easier and safer to cross for all users, adjacent to the Caister Road junction.
Proposal C
Raised junctions on all side roads with priority for those on foot. Making crossing side roads easier and safer, particularly for those with pushchairs or mobility aids.
Proposal D
New parallel crossing with segregated facilities for walking. Making it easier and safer to cross Jellicoe Road for cyclists, pedestrians and wheelchair users, adjacent to the Beatty Road roundabout.
What's changed
Following the consultation local concerns were raised around the proposed removal of parking on Jellicoe Road, so this element of the scheme was revised in light of this feedback to deliver the intended walking and cycling benefits, whilst retaining all existing on street parking.

Background
This project was identified as a priority scheme in the Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan (LCWIP) for Great Yarmouth and is supported by Great Yarmouth Borough Council. A budget of £756,000 has been allocated for the works which will be funded by the Governments Active Travel Fund. This money cannot be used to fund other council services or initiatives and must be spent on schemes that promote walking, wheeling or cycling.
