Career pathway

How the pathway works

The children and young people's (CYP) career pathway is split into five different levels. Each level has different responsibilities and job roles. You can build your skills and experience to progress through the pathway. Or you can transition into similar roles within CYP services.

Supportive

Entry level positions - for example if you are new to the sector or for those who have just left school. See more information about supportive level.

Associate

Typically managing a caseload and delivering care/support independently and within teams. After associate level, you can progress into either a clinical or wider system setting. See more information about associate level.

Clinical - newly qualified or intermediate

Registered health roles suited to those who have a degree in nursing or midwifery. See more information about clinical newly qualified or intermediate level.

Wider system - intermediate

Experiencd roles that are a step into leadership. Could be in various settings like nurseries, clubs, or family hubs. See more information about wider system intermediate level.

Enhanced

Can be in either a clinical setting or the wider system. They usually require a higher level of leadership or specific skills/qualifications. See more information about enhanced level.
