Council to consider £1.8m investment in Supported Living scheme in North Walsham
Norfolk County Council is voting to invest £1.8 million in a new Supported Living Community Housing scheme in North Walsham, North Norfolk.
The six apartments and three bungalows will offer an alternative to traditional residential care, enabling adults with care and support needs to live independently in their communities with tailored support. This housing scheme is modelled to save adult social care around £240k revenue every year once open.
Councillor Alison Thomas, cabinet member for Adult Services at Norfolk County Council, said: "Norfolk County Council is continuing its commitment to helping residents live independently as they consider another significant investment in specialist housing.
"If approved, this investment will mark another step forward in our mission to provide inclusive, accessible housing that supports people to live well in their communities."
The project will be discussed by Norfolk County Council's Cabinet, when it meets on Monday 1 December.
If funding is approved, the scheme will be delivered by Golden Lane Housing, a registered provider of social housing and would be due to open in 2027.
It would be the fifth housing project of this kind delivered under Norfolk's £18m million Supported Living Programme, launched in 2019.
Three similar schemes are already on-site in Norwich, Swaffham and Kings Lynn and will be welcoming residents during 2026. Another scheme in Attleborough opened in 2022 and is supporting adults with learning disabilities to increase their independence and day-to-day living skills such as managing tenancies, coking meals and being active members in their community.
