There is a lot of support for businesses. This comes from a wide range of partner organisations.

Government and national support

The Department for Work and Pensions operate a Rapid Response Service. It's designed to give employers support and advice where there are job losses. To discuss this support email [email protected].

GOV.UK 

The Gov.uk website details rights and procedures that you as an employer need to be aware of. They can also:

  • Provide advice about the forms you must complete when your employee leaves employment
  • Help to calculate any PAYE and National Insurance in your final payments to them

The Insolvency Service can give you advice about alternatives to bankruptcy and information about other options to compulsory liquidation.

Acas

Acas are responsible for reviewing working practices and business structure to help avoid redundancies. They can help you with:

  • Advice to managers and employee representatives about handling redundancy
  • Free training to give you the skills and knowledge to deal with employment issues and help you create a more productive workplace

Business support - membership organisations 

The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) and Norfolk Chambers of Commerce 

Membership organisations can provide expert advice on a wide range of subjects and processes. This includes guidance on:

  • Redundancy processes, lay offs and transfer of workers
  • Dismissal processes, legal compliance and risk mitigation
  • Grievance handling
  • Final pay calculations

Reskilling staff

Skills for Life - Skills Bootcamps

Skills Bootcamps are part of the Government's Lifetime Skills Guarantee, helping everyone gain skills for life. The Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) provides funding and they are free to the learner.

Norfolk and Suffolk County Councils have secured funding to support 400 learners through Skills Bootcamps from April 2026 to March 2027. 

Driven by employers' needs within our region, the aim is to bridge existing skills gaps and address recruitment needs by providing flexible, intensive training programmes.

Norfolk and Waveney MIND

Redundancy can be very traumatic for an individual, whether they have been in the job for many years or a few months. 

One in four people experience at least one mental health diagnosable problem. Redundancy can increase the likelihood of an employee experiencing these.
