Financial support and benefits if you're facing redundancy

If you're facing redundancy, you may have concerns about the financial pressures you may encounter. These pressures can affect basic living standards as well as future planning and wellbeing. These include:

  • Loss of income: reduced or lost earnings are the most immediate impact. This can make it difficult to cover essential expenses like housing, utilities, and food.
  • Uncertainty about redundancy pay: not everyone receives substantial severance. Even when they do, it may only provide short-term stability.
  • Increased financial stress: managing debts, loans, or family expenses can become much harder.
  • Navigating benefits and support systems: understanding entitlements such as unemployment benefits can be complex.
  • Impact on relationships: financial strain and stress can place pressure on family or household dynamics.
  • Reduced earning potential: individuals may need to accept lower-paying roles or different career paths.
  • Retirement and future planning impact: savings and pension contributions may be affected.
