Epilepsy sensors (night-time seizure monitors)
Epilepsy sensors are devices that can support you if you experience seizures during the night while in bed. They can detect certain types of seizures and alert carers or family members.
You can link some sensors to alert systems or monitoring where appropriate.
How epilepsy sensors work
They detect persistent, repetitive movement associated with tonic-clonic seizures. They monitor movement while a person is in bed. When the sensor detects a seizure, it sends an alert to a pager, a carer or family member or a community alarm system (in some setups).
They can support monitoring and recording, by helping to track seizure frequency and patterns over time.
Please note: these devices are not medically certified. They only detect the physical signs of certain seizure types (e.g. tonic-clonic seizures).
How to get epilepsy sensors
Norfolk County Council does not currently provide epilepsy sensors as standard equipment. Devices are available to buy from a range of suppliers, some of which we list below.
We can still make a referral to explore alternative TEC options, such as:
- Falls detectors
- Community alarms
- Environmental sensors
