Kids in Norfolk travel free this August on participating bus routes
Families across Norfolk can enjoy more affordable days out this summer thanks to a new scheme offering free bus travel for children throughout August.
As part of the Government's Great British Summer Savings initiative, under 16s will be able to travel for free on many bus routes across the county, helping families save money while making it easier to explore the many attractions, events and destinations Norfolk has to offer.
The scheme aims to encourage more people to choose public transport during the school holidays, reducing travel costs for families and supporting sustainable travel.
Five of Norfolk's main bus operators are participating in the scheme which means young people age 5-15 years can travel for free throughout August on all services operated by:
- First Bus
- Sanders
- Stagecoach
- Border Bus
- Central Connect
Cllr Tom Dickerson, cabinet member for highways and transport said; "I'm thrilled that so many of our operators are taking part in this scheme. Providing free travel for all 5-15-year-olds will not only give our younger residents more freedom to get around this summer but also reduces the costs for families who want to get out and about and enjoy what our beautiful county has to offer."
Whether travelling to the coast, visiting friends and family, heading into town or enjoying a day out at one of Norfolk's parks and attractions, free bus travel will help make summer adventures more accessible.
Under 5s travel for free on all bus services across Norfolk and concessionary bus pass holders can travel for free on all off-peak services! Many attractions across Norfolk are also part of the national Good Journey initiative which offers incentives and discounts for people arriving car-free.
