Herring Bridge (Third River Crossing)

The Great Yarmouth Third River Crossing will link the A47 at Harfrey's roundabout to the port and the enterprise zone via South Denes Road on the other side of the River Yare. The bridge will ease traffic congestion on the town's roads, shortening journey times and improving journey reliability, as well as support wider plans and work to maximise investment, regeneration and economic growth opportunities in the town and wider borough.

Construction started in January 2021. The bridge became operational for river users in November 2023 and fully opened to road traffic on Thursday 1 February 2024. Works on Bollard Quay will continue until Summer 2024. See an artist's impression of how the finished project will look (video).

The project is already helping the next generation of engineers gain vital experience in the construction industry. Meet some of the team in our short video.
