Moving traffic enforcement
Moving traffic offences are enforced using an Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) camera and a context camera. These cameras are analysing all vehicles to detect illegal movements (eg a right turn ban) if this is detected then the ANPR camera identifies the number plate and context camera records a clip. This is so that all the evidence around an offence can be reviewed.
The cameras are only activated when an offence is detected and do not record all the time.
There are several restrictions that can be enforced. These are things like banned turns, pedestrian zones and yellow box markings. View a full list of the signs that can be enforced. (PDF) [348KB]
Always check the signs to know when restrictions are in operation.
The police still retain the power to enforce all restrictions and will continue to do so.
