Designated teacher

Your school will have a designated teacher. Their main responsibility is to help other staff in the school understand the things which may affect how a looked after child learns and achieves. The designated teacher should be trained, so they know and understand how to promote your educational achievement.

You should always know who to speak to in school if you need any extra support. This is to make sure you can do as well as anyone else at the school. This person may be the designated teacher or your form teacher or head of year, for example. The person you should speak to may vary from school to school. However the important thing is that you know who you can speak to safely. The school's designated teacher will still be the lead to ensure you have everything you need to succeed
