Housing help and advice
Housing problems and where to get help
Sometimes you may experience issues with your accommodation. This makes living in the accommodation difficult or dangerous. For example:
- Damp or mould
- Neighbour issues
- Overcrowding
- Risk of violence
Some problems might lead to the the risk of homelessness if they are not dealt with. These include, but are not limited to:
- Overdue payment or non-payment of your rent or mortgage
- Anti-social behaviour
- Noise complaints
Who you can speak to about housing problems
If you experience any of these issues you should speak to:
- Your personal adviser or social worker
- Your housing officer or neighbourhood officer if you are in social housing
- The landlord if you are in private accommodation
- The environmental health department at your local district council. Find your local district council. If you have major concerns about the condition of your property they can come and look. They can also help with noise complaints.
- Your local housing authority or support organisations, if you are at risk of homelessness
Most of the time housing issues can be sorted. However, it is important you get advice and speak to someone as soon as possible.
