Support with stopping smoking
Stopping smoking is one of the hardest health habits to break. Norfolk County Council funds a range of free-to-use services offering different methods to help you quit your way.
SmokeFree Norfolk
Smokefree Norfolk is a free stop smoking service for adults in Norfolk who are ready to quit, whether it's your first time or you've tried before.
Smokefree Norfolk offers:
- Nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) and e-cigarettes
- Behavioural support to help you stay on track
- One-to-one sessions, group support, telephone coaching, and a digital self-help programme
- Up to 12 weeks of personalised support
You can use this service if you:
- Are 18 or over and
- Live in Norfolk and/or are registered with a Norfolk GP and
- Live in any of the areas listed in these Norfolk areas.
- Member of a high-risk group for poor health including routine and manual workers, homeless, substance users, and multiple health conditions, rough sleepers, and social housing tenants.
- If you have any of the following:
- severe mental illness (e.g. schizophrenia)
- chronic respiratory disease
- an early cancer diagnosis
- hypertension (high blood pressure)
If you're pregnant you're eligible for the smart start service.
Smoke Free app
The Smoke Free app is a free stop-smoking service for adults in Norfolk who are ready to quit, whether it is their first time or they have tried before. It provides a comprehensive and flexible digital stop-smoking service, available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Smoke Free App offers:
- Nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) and e-cigarettes
- Behavioural support to help you stay on track without the need for fixed appointments
- Peer engagement support and progress tracking
- 12 weeks of personalised support
You can use this service if you:
- Are 18 or over and
- Live in Norfolk and/or
- Are registered with a Norfolk GP
Allen Carr's Easyway (ACE)
Allen Carr's Easyway (ACE) is a clinically proven spoken therapy. It may be suitable if you want to stop smoking without using nicotine replacement products or e-cigarettes. ACE is a one-day seminar lasting around five hours, either online or in person. The aim is to change the way you feel and think about cigarettes.
After the seminar, you can request support by phone and email. If you don't quit after your first attempt, they will offer you a backup seminar. You can access this service for free if you:
- Are a smoker
- Are aged 18 and over
- Are registered with a General Practice (GP)
- Live in Norfolk

General Practices (GPs) and Pharmacy Stop Smoking Service
This service is delivered through certain local GPs and pharmacies to service users who are ready to quit but are not eligible for the specialist service. Both self-referrals and referrals from other professionals to participating GPs or pharmacies are accepted, making it easier to access the support you need to stop smoking for good.
This service offers:
- Nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) and prescribed smoking cessation medication
- 12-week Behavioural support
- One-to-one in-person and online sessions
You can access this service if you:
- Are a smoker
- Are aged 18 and over
- Are registered with a General Practice (GP)
- Live in Norfolk
Ask your GP surgery or local pharmacy if they offer stop smoking support.
