Area SEND strategy

In autumn 2022, our updated Norfolk area special educational need and/or disability (SEND) strategy was published. It sets out our four priorities for supporting children and young people with SEND in Norfolk and what needs to happen to change lives together:

  • Working together with children and young people with SEND
  • Improving what is in place families and professionals to support children and young people
  • Communicating the SEND services and support available
  • Preparing for adult life

In summer 2023, work started on a new Norfolk Area SEND and Alternative Provision Strategy for 2024 - 2029. It is being developed by representatives from across the council and health services in co-production with parent/carer organisations and Norfolk's education providers.

The new Norfolk Area SEND and Alternative Provision Strategy 2024 - 2029 will be published in autumn 2023. It will reflect the new Department for Education (DfE) SEND and Alternative Provision Improvement Plan and the new Ofsted and CQC area SEND inspection.

Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA)

The JSNA provides a picture of the health and wellbeing of the people of Norfolk. It also provides demographics and information on population levels and needs

The Health and Social Care Act 2012 requires Health and Wellbeing Boards to be responsible for producing a JSNA for their area.

The JSNA is an evidence base for the board to sit alongside their strategy. It provides a central resource for commissioners and funding applications.
