Flourish pledge case studies

First Steps Norwich CIC

What they pledged

First Steps Norwich CIC run stay and play sessions for mums, dads, grandparents, childminders and all other carers with their 0-4 year-olds.

They pledged to expand their offer - including sessions they knew were needed. For example, quiet sessions and family support sessions.

About the pledge

As a result of their pledge, they increased the number of groups offered to families, with one group focussing specifically on early communication and language skills. Their gentle hour group has also evolved into a small session. This is mostly mums with new babies, floor-based and quiet, which has been very popular.

"Flourish has given us a framework for focussing on why we do what we do.  As a result, we have reflected on our practice, evaluated our offer, and made changes to increase the impact on children and families."

The benefits to these parents is that they love sitting with their baby listening to a story shared by the lead practitioner. They learn new songs and rhymes to share at home. One of the biggest impacts of the pledge is on the home learning environment. First Steps' childcare staff model ways of interacting, playing and sharing stories which can then be used at home.
