Flourish pledge case studies
South Norfolk and Broadland Council
What they pledged
South Norfolk and Broadland Councils pledged to:
- Help children and young people flourish by focusing on supporting care leavers and leisure activities for young people
- In Broadland - deliver a handyperson offer for care leavers moving into their first tenancy
- In South Norfolk - offer kids camps with additional support for vulnerable families
About the pledge
Broadland now offer a handyperson service for care leavers moving into their first tenancy. The three-hour appointment includes basic DIY and advice about how to look after their property. Care leavers can also get advice from the council's help hub and housing teams to support their tenancy.
Broadland worked with Norfolk County Council's children and young people care leavers participation group. They included their feedback and used coproduction to shape and adapt their proposal. This service has helped settle care leavers into their homes and provided them with help and practical support.
South Norfolk now offers kids camps to support vulnerable families as part of the holiday activities fund and big norfolk holiday fun. Activities are free for children eligible for benefits-related free school meals. A lunch and snack are also provided. Kids camp is a fun filled day where children:
- Participate in sports, arts and crafts
- Learn new skills
- Make new friends
"Flourish is an example of strength through partnership working, focused on specific priority areas, to support children and young people develop."
