Flourish pledge case studies

Norwich School of Hair and Beauty

What they pledged

Norwich School of Hair and Beauty (NSHB) pledged to deliver a first summer school enabling 20 young people to gain a qualification, build skills in the hair and beauty industry, and enhance their career prospects.

About the pledge

NSHB ran their first hair and beauty course over three weeks at the College of West Anglia in Kings Lynn.

The students said they felt more confident and had more skills. One said "it made me feel happy."

The teaching staff were impressed by the commitment and application of all the students. There was a higher rate of students completing the full course than usual.

Quick to capitalise on this Flourish activity, NHSB's CEO made two further pledges for 2024:

  • Help even more young people into work by providing 'T level' placements and work experience
  • To develop new activities for young people in hair, beauty and mindfulness outside term times to build on the success of this year's summer school

The pledge encouraged the CEO to explore new ideas and make new business connections to inspire and educate young people. By embracing this commitment, it motivated her to cultivate networks to enrich the lives of young people.

"Flourish has played a pivotal role....25 young people have earned a Level 1 qualification. This accomplishment has paved the way for some to enter college while empowering others with enhanced skills in presenting themselves effectively. These skills will serve them well in various future opportunities, be it job interviews or pursuing further education."
