Flourish pledge case studies
Treetops Nursery
What they pledged
Treetops Nursery made two pledges:
- To offer two work-based apprenticeships to support young people, offering a workplace environment to grow and flourish
- To involve children in decision making with the development of their outside environment. Letting them vote on new resources and championing their voices.
About the pledge
Treetops Nursery progressed both pledges by:
- Successfully recruiting two new apprentices
- Encouraging children to vote on how they wanted to develop the outside 'construction' area
The first apprentice, 16-year-old Hannah, went on to do a level 2 qualification in early years education. 17-year-old apprentice Ellie went on to do her level 3 early years education qualification. They are supported by the team and an external tutor, so they can learn new skills and become qualified childcare practitioners.
Treetops Nursery's second pledge involved development of a tally chart in the nursery. Each child was invited to mark on the chart how they would like the 'construction area' developed. They are proud to share that giving children a voice really does empower them to feel heard. It is a critical part of developing their individuality whilst at Treetops.
"With our Flourish pledges we have been able to champion the voices of our 3 & 4 year old children...Our young apprentices have been given the opportunity to upskill themselves. Our two pledges have enabled us to offer support to both ranges of our young people within our business, from young children to our young adults."
